Dr. Pepper 10 – For Men Only?

The new Dr. Pepper Diet drink “Dr. Pepper 10” has been marketed as the diet soda for men and the advertisements being used to market it play on many stereotypes and binaries of women versus men. The commercial adheres the idea of strong men and male interest in action movies versus women are weak and only like to watch romantic comedies. This ad campaign is a much different approach then those usually taken to market diet sodas, especially Diet Dr. Pepper (ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXwOIPt9ZQM), but does it go to far by blatantly saying that it is “Not for Women,” and playing on stereotypes about men and women to sell the idea?
